It’s something you never want to think about, but is important to be aware of: being attacked. As women and moms, we can often be targets for thieves and other criminals, but that doesn’t mean we have to be victims. Knowing a few key self-defense moves can help you get out of situation before it turns dangerous.
That’s why we reached out to expert Tony Racciatti who runs Krav Maga NJ, who spends his whole day teaching people to defend themselves and even runs a women’s combative fitness class in Ramsey. He told us the five moves we should know right now.
- If someone bear hugs you from the front
Your arms get trapped in this type of attack, so you want to focus on getting them free. You want to take one step back on the same side as attackers head, then take your thumbs into attackers eyes and push the head back and up. Next, hold one eye and hammer blow the nose.
2. Being choked from the front
To defend yourself against this type of attack take you left leg back, lift your right arm as pictured and rotate to left to break choke hold. Next take your right arm and hit downward then hammer blows head.
3. If your attacker comes from the rear and covers your mouth
Reach back and scrape the attackers eyes and hold his arm securely. Next, step on foot if available, spin out and strike to disengage.
4. Attacker grabs your hair from the front
You will pin the attackers elbow by grabbing at elbow bend then clawing the face.with your other hand. A pictured, take your knee to your attacker’s groin and break away.
5. Handbag snatch
Bend down sideways deliver a side kick to attackers knee. Try to break away by subsequent attacks on attacker.
Okay, practicing these moves now, and hoping never to have to use them!
